Beauty Expert Offers Makeup Tips for Eyes and Brows

Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Fall is a busy season for charity balls, galas and holiday events. Everyone wants to look their best, especially if cameras are nearby.

We spoke with Ashley Riddle, bride beautification expert and founder of Updo’s for I do’s in Maryland, for some tricks of the trade you can do at home.

One of the easiest ways to give your makeup a more professional is using a highlighter. Visit your local drugstore and pick up an affordable palette or take a trip to a beauty store like Sephora where you can sample colors on your skin. Apply the color to cheekbones and the bridge of your nose. You can use a fan brush or just your fingers. The ring finger works best around your eyes and allows you to get the color right where you want it.

A good brow job frames the face and makes you appear more youthful. If you haven’t had time to get your brows done, there are a couple of things you can do. First, fill them in with your favorite pencil, powder or gel product. Next, use a shadow brush to apply highlighter above and below your brows and voila!

The secret to great eye makeup in photographs is the application of lashes. However, applying and wearing lashes can be hard for a newbie. The night of a big event is definitely not the time to try them out. Buy reusable lashes and practice applying them—and wearing them—a few times before your event. Ashley suggests using her favorite eyelash adhesive, Duo in grey. Grey blends well with black eyeliner and hides goofs. Stay away from clear glue as it can sometimes cause reflections in photos.
