Consumers are advised to stop wearing their Dr. Martens vegan boots because direct contact with the boot tongue lining can expose the wearer to the cancer-causing chemical benzidine.
Airwair voluntarily filed this recall with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to a federal news release.
The recalled unisex Vegan 1460 boots have the following characteristics:
- Cherry red in color;
- Chunky sole;
- Golden heel pull tab with the name “AirWair” printed on it;
- Tongue label with the phrase “Made in Vietnam,” product code 14585 and batch code starting with GV and ending in Q, R or S printed on it.
Consumers should no longer wear the boots and click on Recall or call 800-460-3930 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
