A Day at the Farm May 12-13

Q’s Gadget Day May 9
Tech-ops in training ages 8 and up have a chance to create way-cool spy gadgetry for their future missions at this KidSpy Family Workshop. From cameras that shoot through a button-hole to a secret listening device in the heel of a shoe, spies have always used the slickest tools of the trade. Whether it’s to hide top secret intelligence, escape from a sticky situation or communicate covertly, trainees will have the choice to use everyday objects, recycled materials, or basic electronics develop a pre-determined spy gadget or create a new gadget of their imagination. Moms in History May 9-10
“Mother of our Country” Martha Washington and her granddaughter Nelly as they celebrate Mother’s Day weekend at Mount Vernon, Va. Washington will reminisce about motherhood and hand out lavender sachets to mothers (while supplies last). 8am-5pm.

Gadsby’s Tavern Museum offers free tours on Mother’s Day from 12 to 5 p.m. for all visiting mothers! Treat Mom to a tour of the historic tavern that George Washington frequented in Old Town Alexandria. Tours begin at quarter past and quarter ‘til the hour. Last tour at 4:45 p.m. Cost is $4 for all other adults and $2 for children ages 11-17.

Mother’s Day Garden Tour & Tea May 10
Enjoy a delightful docent-led tour of the gardens at Green Spring Gardens from 1 to 3 p.m. Then raise your teacups in honor of mothers and nurturers everywhere at a traditional English afternoon tea in the Historic House. Fly-in to Victory Day May 9
If you can’t make it to the Flyover on Friday, you still have a chance to see the vintage airplanes – just not in flight. The day after formations of World War II aircraft fly over DC as part of the Arsenal of Democracy World War II Victory Capitol Flyover, a selection of the historic airplanes will be on display at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The celebration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe will also feature educational and WWII-era activities, including performances by the U.S. Air Force Band’s Airmen of Note, swing dancing, themed story times, and hands-on activities.Free, but parking is $15. 10am-3pm.
