Pennysaver was established in 1979 as a small, brother-owned business that published only one edition in Severna Park, Maryland, with a circulation of 8,000.
Oh, how we’ve grown. Pennysaver is now the East Coast’s largest independent weekly shopping publication publishing, 72 editions weekly and delivering to over 1.1 million homes and businesses throughout Maryland. More than 2 million readers use Pennysaver’s targeted neighborhood editions throughout Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Queen Anne’s, Prince George’s, Howard, Montgomery, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties, along with our tabloid edition in Harford County and Super publications in the Baltimore/Washington Metro area.
Throughout our 29-year reign as the most cost-efficient advertising system in the market, Pennysaver consistently provides its readers with thousands of bargains in each edition and through this Web site.
In addition to advertisements, the printed version of the Pennysaver offers special features each week, such as community news, crossword puzzles, horoscopes and personal ads. The Baltimore and Washington Super Pennysavers include an expanded events column known as Get Out! — The Ultimate Guide to What’s Happening. You can find many of these features here on this site.
Thank you for 29 successful years of bringing buyers and sellers together. We look forward to expanding our circulation, developing new products and bringing you the best local bargains week after week for many years to come.

Pennysaver believes it’s important to give back to the communities that make its success possible. While our publications remain localized, our charitable spirit spans across the Baltimore/Washington Metro region. The Marketing department works closely with local charities to organize sponsorships of local events, produce promotional partnerships and publish over 20,000 free notices per year for nonprofit organizations. Thus, Pennysaver donates nearly 3 million dollars of advertising space every year to philanthropic efforts.
Past sponsorships include:
Pennysaver is extremely mindful of waste accumulated during production. In fact, we pride ourselves on being respectful of the environment. That’s why we recycle over 800 tons of paper and press plates per year, meet Maryland Recycling Act requirements and recycle toner cartridges from our office printers and copier machines. Plus, Pennysaver’s film development process used to involve silver, but we’ve switched to environmentally friendly vinegar.
As one of the largest employers in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Pennysaver employs close to 300 people throughout Maryland. Of those employees, 20 percent have been with the company for 5 years or more, 20 percent have been employed 10 years or more and 10 percent have worked for Pennysaver 20 years or more. This is a true testament to our organization and the family atmosphere that resonates throughout the company.
